Apr 22, 2012 - I feel Ubuntu is easier than windows. I wanted to try Arch, but I'm not too savy with command lines.
xXEduBuntuXx Says:
Apr 13, 2012 - what? Repo's work with ARM, but not PPA's I think... I am not able to build ARM packages trough my launchpad recipes
Lolliloll1285 Says:
Apr 13, 2012 - PPAs already support armel and armhf. It's just that not many people compile towards it, either because of assembly code which would take too much work, OpenGL or simply not wanting to.
xXEduBuntuXx Says:
Apr 12, 2012 - and PPA support for ARM :O
Lolliloll1285 Says:
Mar 15, 2012 - Many don't get the situation. Ubuntu on ARM is nothing new, far from it. ARM support has been there for quite some time, it's just that very few use it. Software support has come a long way. The only obstacle is having powerful enough hardware.
the0real0realitykid Says:
Mar 12, 2012 - Not entirely accurate. It all depends on what you want to do on Ubuntu. Some things in Ubuntu are much easier to do in Windows. However, as far as email, web surfing, video viewing, image storing, and music playing goes, Ubuntu works just fine so long as it supports your hardware.
the0real0realitykid Says:
Mar 12, 2012 - I don't mind this idea, as long as doing things like this doesn't replace the desktop. I believe that the two should compliment each other instead of one replacing the other.
MrCoalmin Says:
Mar 2, 2012 - I AGREE! anyone that thinks ubuntu is harder to use than windows obviously hasn't used ubuntu.

Mar 2, 2012 - Limit iphone4, you will get it if you faster than others! gAgC accuc.info
rhtb4theeyeblnks Says:
Mar 1, 2012 - Further more, if you own an android phone and couldn't root it you should stay the hell away from ubuntu/debian/linux/etc! and you are holding your phone back from massive potential cuz its just to hard to learn or look up a tut, and you don't need an android. my grand mother doesn't need a laptop and you just need a cell phone. Not a smart phone. it wont make you smart enough to use Linux unless you are willing to put forth the effort. windows 8 sux. :P
rhtb4theeyeblnks Says:
Mar 1, 2012 - Ubuntu is VERY easy to use and install. If you think it is hard, you don't have a full grasp of what it is. You don't really HAVE to compile anything any more then you "compile" it in windows. Most of everything you will ever use in Ubuntu is in the software center for the users that arnt tech savvy enough to compile or simply add software sources. Its easier then click installs. Which Ubuntu can also do like Ubuntu tweak. software center = google appstore. how complicated is that.
lhamil64 Says:
Feb 26, 2012 - I have installed various Linux distros before, so I understand how to install them and such\. It's not hard for someone who's tech-savvy to install a Linux distro, but for someone who doesn't know much about tech, it would be a challenge. I'm not saying that Linux is bad, just that it would be difficult to make it mainstream unless it came preinstalled on computers or something (like Dell tried to do).
zikalify Says:
Feb 25, 2012 - yes it is...
lhamil64 Says:
Feb 25, 2012 - I wasn't really talking about the Ubuntu phones, I was talking about how Linux isn't a viable option for regular users on the desktop.
iYiavriik Says:
Feb 24, 2012 - You don't need to have a computer running ubuntu linux, the new ubuntu phones will be running full ubuntuOS and android all that needs to be done is to connect it to a dock that attached to a display.
lhamil64 Says:
Feb 24, 2012 - The average user doesn't need to. Those two OS's come pre-installed on the computers they buy.
iYiavriik Says:
Feb 24, 2012 - In that case I guess the average user will also not be able to install WinOS or Mac OSX.....
CodeyOxley Says:
Feb 24, 2012 - It's really not. At one point, it was. Now it's not even completely linux. They take certain standards and do weird things with them to make it their own. If you want a real linux experience similar to Ubuntu, only way more stable, I'd suggest Debian. It's what Ubuntu is based upon, at least.
lhamil64 Says:
Feb 24, 2012 - For the average user, it would be hard to install any Linux distro. I've seen so many posts on the internet where people were confused about just burning the CD/DVD, let alone trying to partition their drive without screwing anything up. Just because of this reason, I don't think Linux will really be an option for the average user on the desktop. If it comes integrated into phones, then it definitely could be an option.
maartman Says:
Feb 24, 2012 - Yeah, you could say it is.
guyaneseDJ13 Says:
Feb 23, 2012 - I just downloaded Ubuntu about hearing positive reviews about it, i'm going to try it out soon hopefully. I heard it's a really good OS/.
Razor2048 Says:
Feb 23, 2012 - Only issue is the ARM version of ubuntu will not run the ubuntu desktop apps so the only similarity will be the UI but you will have to have a separate set of applications.
america0014 Says:
Feb 23, 2012 - Need to compile everything?? The answer is no. This is Ubuntu, not Gentoo! Ubuntu has to be one if not the easiest Linux distros out there. If you disagree, then you probably drop the computer hobby and take up coloring or collect stamps or something. If you want hard, pick up a Gentoo .iso and try go through the install process. I'm kinda sick of hearing about how Ubuntu is too hard for the ordinary human being. Read a book...
EzeCoyote Says:
Feb 23, 2012 - He didn't say you should stop using desktops or laptops at all, neither did he say smartphones would replace computers. You're over-analyzing it. That'd also be ironic has hell since he's got like 3 desktops sitting in that room. What he's saying that someone who ENTIRELY relies on desktop computers lives in the past. If anything, laptops will be what replaces desktops seeing how that market is growing more and more.
