Dec 4, 2011 - Update: Ok...so I called Toshiba...and now I feel like a dork. To make this thing work with your PS3, you have to do the following: 1. Format the drive in FAT32 format (not exFAT). 2. Create 4 folders (using all capitals): VIDEO, MUSIC, PICTURES, PS3 3. In the PS3 folder, create 3 folders: EXPORT, SAVEDATA, THEME Once you do that, the drive works like a champ. It took Toshiba Customer Service 10 min to answer, but only 5 min to figure out where I went wrong & point me in the right direction.

Nov 24, 2011 - so that same cable will work with a usb 2.0 and 3.0 right?

Nov 10, 2011 - I just bought the Canvio 1TB 3.0 Plus and reformatted it to FAT32 so I could use it on my macbook pro. Unfortunately though, it's not showing up on my finder or under disk utility. I guess I'm going to have to return it.

Oct 19, 2011 - I have a 1TB one for about 8 months, now, and I'm pretty satisfied. From the time I opened the box, and I saw the stiff cable, I knew some different care should be taken with it. Since it's not as flexible as the USB 2.0 cable, you should not move your hard drive or computer while connected otherwise the hardness of the cable might cause it to scape from the slot (either on the hard drive or the cpu/notebook). This is the only care you should take and your drive will work flawlessly.

Sep 6, 2011 - So if i have to reformat it to (HFS+) or FAT32, will i still be able to use it on my PC? Also, which format would you advice to reformat it to?

Milesdavis2998 Says:

Aug 6, 2011 - The external drive is great, however the cable at the 3.0 port is garbage. I've gone through 3 different returns with this hard drive and it's the same thing over and over. You'll get a few different indications. A white light, a blue light and a flashing white light. If it's white you're good, anything else and you have problems. If you purchase this, make sure you keep your receipt. You will be returning this.

Jun 6, 2011 - Hey quick question- Did you have any issues watching movies that are saved on the Hard Drive? I just bought it off of amazon and movie storage and playback is going to be my main use for this so I would like to know if that was a legitimate problem. Please let me know. Thanks!

May 25, 2011 - how do i get this to work with my ps3?!

Robrob007 Says:

May 11, 2011 - Thanks for the tips, Now that I have it, I can see that the cable is thick (but all of the 3.0 cables are thick, it is no problm to me) , I see that the connection is stable and have no problem (amazon reviews were complaining about this). I like it, The HD is really thin and it is thinner than the USB 2.0 toshiba Generation. It performs very good even in a USB2.0 laptop.

May 11, 2011 - This drive will work on the Mac after you've re-formatted the drive to HFS+ or FAT32 format.

toshibaUS Says:

May 11, 2011 - Some helpful tips: 1) Flex the USB 3.0 cable as it is thicker than the USB 2.0 cable. By flexing the cable, it will help ease the stiffness of a thicker cable when using it for the first time. 2) Insert the USB 3.0 cable fully to your Toshiba Canvio external hard drive and to your PC's USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port. When the cable is fully and correctly inserted to both of your external hard drive and your PC's USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, you will see the LED indicator light flash on the drive.

toshibaUS Says:

May 11, 2011 - This drive comes pre-formatted in NTFS which is not compatible with Mac OS. To use with the Mac, you'll first need to re-format the drive to Mac OS native drive format (HFS+) or FAT32. After the drive has been re-formatted, you can start using the Canvio 3.0 by plugging it to your Mac computer via the included USB cable.

toshibaUS Says:

May 11, 2011 - The cable connection has no performance issue. Some complaints came from the fact that the USB 3.0 cable is thicker than a USB 2.0 cable making it less flexible. Our USB 3.0 cable that comes with the Canvio 3.0 drive is built in accordance with USB 3.0 specifications.

May 11, 2011 - The flashing LED indicates that the drive is in operation (ie: saving or accessing data).
