By "copy" he meant just imitating something without fully understanding or improving upon it (like Microsoft attempted to do with the Zune). "Steal" means to truly make an idea your own, even if you didn't come up with it (like Apple did with the iPad). Microsoft may have released the first tablet, but they did so too early and it flopped. Apple tried to perfect it.
